About Success With Honor

Success with Honor is a grass roots organization with the mission to exemplify and to perpetuate the philosophy of Success with Honor. A philosophy embodied and imparted by Joe Paterno to Penn Staters who extend this motto to communities throughout the world.

Our Alma Matter, contains the verse, “May our lives but swell thy fame”. Penn Staters make significant contributions to our world by utilizing the first class education and the Success with Honor philosophy they obtained from our University to become leaders in industry, academia and public service. None of this overshadows the impact that we make every day on the communities where we live and work.

Most Penn Staters already understand that true success has nothing to do with influence or the amount of wealth or material goods you’ve accumulated. Rather, it’s about succeeding as a human being. It’s about giving back to the community and making a positive contribution to society. It’s about improving the lives of our children and their children and so on. These Penn Staters have created, led or contributed to charitable organizations that make a difference. Our goal is to bring attention to Penn Staters who are MAKING AN IMPACT through their hard work and dedication to charitable endeavors, thereby inspiring others to get involved or take up their own cause.

Success with Honor’s (SWH) mission is to create a resource by which people (not just Penn State students and alumni) can learn about and become involved in charitable endeavors. This includes creating a network to allow people to communicate, collaborate and to promote these charitable endeavors. Ultimately, we want to assist people in obtaining the resources needed to begin new charitable endeavors and to move beyond existing institutional and geographical boundaries, allowing people worldwide to explore, grow, or create charitable foundations.

Like many supporters of Penn State and Joe Paterno, we have struggled to come to terms with the events that have unfolded over the past few months, especially the media’s coverage of said events. We were particularly bothered by the media wanting to define Penn State by the number of Penn State football wins or by recent negative perceptions. Any Penn Stater knows that “We Are” so much more than that. By coming together as one voice, we can show the world what ”We Are” means!

So you are not a Penn State Alumni? Jay Paterno said it best when he wrote (on being a Penn Stater) “it is an earned privilege and not a right. Having a Penn State degree doesn’t automatically make you a Penn Stater, and not having a Penn State degree doesn’t mean you can’t be a Penn Stater. A Penn Stater values love and loyalty to our university. Penn Staters serve others and stand for honor and integrity.” If these values resonate with you, then welcome to our family. SWH intends to promote the Success with Honor philosophy to future generations without regard for existing geographical or institutional boundaries. Please bear with us as our website evolves. Visit our other pages to learn more about our vision. We hope you will visit often and grow with us. Your input is important to us. We will post surveys frequently but your feedback is welcome any time.
